Ken Marek, MD

Ken is president and senior scientist at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders. His research interests include identification of biomarkers for early detection; assessment of disease progression; development of new treatments for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and related neurodegenerative disorders; and in vivo neuroreceptor imaging biomarkers. He has authored many neurology and neuroscience publications on these topics. Ken is the principal investigator of several ongoing multi-center international studies, including the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and the Parkinson’s Associated Risk Syndrome (PARS) study. He is a special scientific advisor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, held leadership roles in organizations focused on neurodegenerative disorders, and received numerous grants to support his research. Ken recently received the Robert A. Pritzker Prize for Leadership in Parkinson’s Research. He co-founded Molecular NeuroImaging, LLC, and is an employee and owner at Invicro, which provides discovery and clinical neuroimaging research services. Ken earned his medical degree from Yale University, trained in internal medicine and neurology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and was a post-doctoral fellow in neurochemistry at the Institute of Neurology, Queens Square, London.
