GP2-Funded Online Courses from NIH

We are pleased to announce that we will be funding eight places on online courses delivered by the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) Academic Programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

FAES delivers high-quality educational programs, and classes are taught by researchers from the NIH and experts from academia and industry. 

GP2 will be funding introductory bioinformatics and data science courses in the 2021 spring semester. Courses run in two sessions: Session A from February 1 – March 19 and Session B from March 22 – May 7. Each online course will last seven weeks. Specific details are outlined below.

Available courses running in Session A (February 1 – March 19, 2021)

BIOF 309 – Introduction to Python – 2 credits

BIOF 501 – Introduction to R – 2 credits

BIOF 439 – Data visualization with R – 1 credit

Available courses running in Session B (March 22 – May 7, 2021)

BIOF 309 – Introduction to Python – 2 credits

BIOF 501 – Introduction to R 2 credits

BIOF 440 – Data visualization with Python – 1 credit

No previous knowledge or experience in Python or R is necessary. For a more detailed overview of all available courses, please read the course syllabuses.

Application process

Application deadline: 23:59 UTC, January 12, 2021

You may only apply for one course (one from Session A or one from Session B). Please read the information and course syllabuses, and state in your application which course you would like to apply for.

We will prioritize applications from applicants living and working/studying in countries currently underrepresented in Parkinson’s disease genetics research.
